About Us

We are a sewing group in the inner north suburb of Brunswick in Melbourne, Australia.  The group was founded in 1996 when a group of Somali women decided they needed sewing classes.  Over 20 years later, this special group of sewers and crafters meet twice a week almost every week of the year. The group now warmly welcomes women and children of all faiths and cultures.

Everyone is important at the Multicultural Women's Sewing Group and they come for all kinds of reasons:

  • To learn and teach machine sewing and other crafts.
  • To make and mend things such as clothes, household items, nappies, gifts or protest banners!
  • To practice English.
  • To learn about one another.
  • To enjoy one another's children.
DONATIONS

Multicultural Women's Sewing Group welcomes donations. We are always in need of preloved crafty materials, fabric, patterns, equipment and books.
Monetary donations go directly to operating costs such as the facilitator wages. All other work is done by volunteers, and we are very grateful to Brunswick Baptist Church for providing a place for us to meet free of charge.

Please contact us to discuss other ways of supporting the sewing group.
